  • Prepare and supervise the preparation and distribution of soup kitchen meals and special social service community events.

  • Plan and maintain a detailed weekly menu of meals being served.

  • Supervise and oversee the cleaning and overall upkeep of the kitchen area.

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of supplies, materials and foods needed for the Soup Kitchen operation.

  • Responsible, with the Social Worker, for overseeing the preparation, supervision, and clean-up after Soup Kitchen dining area.

  • Maintain kitchen and dining-room environment specific to the New York City Department of Health code.



Responsibilities:




  • Prepare menus

  • Interview and supervise all Star Academy interns

  • Order and stock for Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry

  • Prepare meals for the day, with cooks from the Star Academy

  • Prepare dining room for serving meals, and set up chapel for Sundays

  • Open and close soup kitchen daily on time

  • Serve all members of the community attending the Soup Kitchen

  • Clean and store away all soup kitchen supplies and materials

  • Report to Corps Officers of materials and supplies needed

  • Maintain an inventory

  • Keep a safe and hazard free work environment

  • Other responsibilities as requested by the Corps Officers.


Requirements:

Qualifications:




  • High School Diploma, experience or special training

  • Demonstrate a continued interest in attending food handler seminars, classes and training as required by the New York City Department of Health.

  • Must have a Drivers license.

  • Must be able to work with children, the elderly, and Special Education populations.

  • Ability and interest in helping others in need..

  • Participation in corps activities is a plus

  • Individual sensitivity to various cultural and social needs

  • Individual will conduct themselves in a highly professional manner, demonstrating good character and knowledge in all aspects of culinary training
