Principal Functions

To assist the commanding officers with administrative duties, operations of various corps programs, and represent The Salvation Army in the corps and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for opening and closing the building, making sure the coffee room is setup for the drop in center/day shelter

  2. Managing and securing inventory, order and pickup/receive food and supplies

  3. Process incoming/outgoing mail, type and file both routine and confidential correspondence ensuring proper security protocol is maintained.

  4. Process Accounts payable including preparing and mailing of checks to vendors.

  5. In the absence of Corps Officers, meet with individuals seeking assistance

  6. Assist Corps Officers with maintaining the social services database on lotus notes

  7. Maintain bookkeeping files for audit readiness

  8. Generate reports and prepare files for required EFSP documentation

  9. Maintain bring-up files and assist corps officers with their calendar appointments.

  10. Answer corps phone and answer routine questions and refer others to various community resources and/or corps officers.

  11. Accompany corps officers to community meetings or attend and represent the corps officer and The Salvation Army when required.

  12. Attend monthly advisory board and staff meetings.  Take and type minutes and send to members once approved by corps officer.

  13. Maintain and keep office in an orderly manner.

  14. Ensure that all employment documents have been properly completed and schedule a final interview with prospective new employees and corps officers.

  15. Process camp applications.

  16. Maintain local volunteer database and work with Divisional Volunteer Manager when needed

  17. Coordinate volunteers for various regular and seasonal corps programs

  18. Record and report statistical data for programs at the Corps

  19. Assist as needed with Christmas and other seasonal  programs

  20. Maintain various Corps licenses, permits, and maintenance/service contracts.

  21. Perform other related duties within the scope of the position.



Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work/Counseling, preferred

  • High School degree required

Work Experience

  • Social work experience preferred

  • Work/volunteering experience and knowledge of Salvation Army programming preferred

  • Work experience with children and families

  • Office work experience

Other Qualifications

  • Must be committed to the mission of The Salvation Army

  • Must have a valid Driver's License, and be able to qualify to drive a 12-passenger van

  • Must be self motivated, organized, and creative

  • Must be able to follow direction well and also work independently

  • Great communication skills; written & oral

  • Must have computer skills to type and print correspondence letters, send /receive email, data entry, and access internet, etc

  • Must be able to occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 50 lbs

  • Uniformed Salvationist preferred


Hours:  M, T, W, F 8:30 to 4:30pm

    Th 8:30am to 6:30pm
